Birmingham and Black Country Lives

The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography has added 70 new lives to its database.

These new additions focus on the people of Birmingham and the Black Country who have made a contribution to the history of our nation.

A launch event was held at the Library of Birmingham to celebrate this new release, where historians and archivists discussed the significance of the biographies added. You can view the biographies on the ODNB website www.oxforddnb.com.

Over the coming weeks, History West Midlands will be releasing a series of short profile films that look at seven of the new biographies. These include:

  • Florence Camm
  • William Bloye
  • Julius Chatwin
  • Sir Alfred Owen
  • Kathleen Dayus
  • Elihu Burritt
  • Peter Thomas Stanford
