Heritage Lottery Fund are looking for a Chair and Member for their Committee for West Midlands, commencing 1 April 2016. Their outgoing Chair, Les Sparks says:
“Working with the HLF is a joy, and the Committee Chair is in a privileged position to engage with people across the organisation from the Board members to the regional director and team. It provides a unique opportunity to get to know the heritage of the region, its landscapes, wildlife, museums, historic cities, towns and villages, its communities and, particularly in the case of the West Midlands, its exceptionally rich industrial history. In my time as Chair I have made many friends, been to many fascinating places and participated in all sorts of events; my future enjoyment of the region will benefit from all the understanding I have gained and the memories I have collected.”
Their Chair guides committee meetings where members participate in deciding applications with grant requests between 100,000 and up to £2million and recommend the funding priorities for applications of £2 million and above, as well as for those submitted within the targeted initiatives and decided by the Board.
Their members have confirmed that their role on the committee has provided them with a personal development opportunity.
Committee Chairs and members come from varied backgrounds. Heritage Lottery Fund are an inclusive organisation and keen to receive applications from a range of people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, who can demonstrate a strong affinity with the West Midland’s diverse and exciting heritage. They welcome applications from people from black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, disabled people and younger individuals who are currently less well represented across our committees.
The closing date for applications is Monday 28 September 2015.
