New book focusses on Stourbridge glass industry

Notice of availability and official launch

In Our Time (subtitled: A celebration of Stourbridge Glass, the 2012 Portland Vase Project and GlassCuts, the voice of the British Glass Foundation) brings together, as its title suggests, several key elements in the recent history of the world-famous Stourbridge Glass industry.

Written by BGF Trustee Graham Fisher MBE, the special commemorative book features a comprehensive overview plus contributions from Ian Dury, 2012 Portland Vase Project Coordinator, and Graham Knowles, Chairman of the British Glass Foundation (BGF). The lavish 24-page full colour publication centres around a facsimile of GlassCuts 34, a special single-topic edition featuring last year’s recreation, by Stourbridge artisans, of one of the most important pieces of Roman cameo glass in the world.

Graham Fisher says: ‘The feedback we received following our feature confirmed the tremendous interest in the amazing achievement of recreating the Portland Vase here in Stourbridge. In Our Time is our acknowledgement of the glassmaking talents that still abound and our recording in perpetuity of the feat and its participants.’

In Our Time has been written and published pro bono by Graham Fisher in association with Sparrow Publishing, with any monies raised being directed to BGF funds.

It is available from various local outlets or direct from the BGF at bgf@britishglassfoundation.org.uk  01384 217984. The cost is £3.50 + £1.50 p&p.

An official launch of the book, where signed copies can be obtained and to which media representatives are cordially invited, will be held at the Webb Corbett Visitor Centre, Wollaston Road, Amblecote DY8 4HF on Thursday 12th December 2013.
