The Peaky Blinders

The Peaky Blinders were backstreet thugs and violent criminals in Birmingham during the 1890s and turn of the twentieth century. Formerly known as sloggers, their gangs were put down before the First World War by a combination of strong policing, more severe sentencing and social changes. But from their number arose Billy Kimber and other members of the Birmingham Gang who fought with the Sabini Gang for control of the criminal rackets on the racecourse of southern England in 1921.

These gangs have become dramatised in the acclaimed TV Peaky Blinders drama.
